3 key perspectives taken from our sponsorship of the 2017 HeartKids Gala Ball.
As a business focused on curing the planet of carbon overload, excessive pollution and harmful greenhouse emissions, one of our priorities is aligning with like-minded organisations who too are on a mission to improve the health of our planet. Integrating with our local community is of paramount importance to us, so when the opportunity arose to become a partner of the HeartKids 2017 Gala Ball, we jumped at the chance to come on board as proud sponsors of their wonderful cause.
HeartKids is a registered health charity whose purpose is centred around supporting families of children with heart disease – a condition which sadly affects millions of Australian families every day.
Saturday 6th May 2017 saw the Crown Towers Perth Ballroom play host to a sea of champagne flutes, candles, sparkles and supportive guests, with the night focusing on the triumphs, challenges and ongoing progress of the HeartKids foundation.
During the evening, EGP Energy Solutions donated a 5-kilowatt residential solar system to the event’s live auction, won by a worthy winner keen to embrace the benefits of renewable energy. Additionally, we also offered to donate 10% off the sale price of any residential or commercial solar PV system purchased by a gala guest in 2017.
On an emotional night of heartbreaking battles with heart disease, as well as some inspiring success stories, here are 3 things we took away from the evening which align closely with our values as a company focused on a brighter future:
Inspirational stories of survival from these amazing HeartKids
The night focused on some hard-hitting truths about the effects of heart disease, highlighting it as a major concern for our growing population. With childhood heart disease the biggest killer of Australian kids under the age of one, with 8 babies born each day in Australia suffering a heart defect (almost 3,000 per year), the facts speak volumes. An even scarier fact around the cure is; there is none. With no known cure or prevention…it is a battle against the odds.
We liken the above threat to future generations, to the ongoing battle for a sustainable climate; with global warming a worldwide issue of contention. Data from NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies has indicated that global average temperature has increased by between 0.15 – 0.20 °C per decade, with two-thirds of the warming occurring since 1975. The ongoing global debate around climate change has shown that a significant proportion of the population challenge the notion of change. It is a fight against the odds, however a battle imperative to the future of humanity.
2 – Knowledge is power for a brighter tomorrow
Through donations, sponsorship, investment, general support, ongoing clinical research and innovation, HeartKids has empowered specialists with the funds and resources to research into new ways of treating patients and limiting the impact heart disease has on our nation. Whether it be new testing facilities, research projects, vaccinations or clinical trials, the charity is constantly pushing for new solutions in this ongoing battle against an unforgiving disease.
A sparkling welcome address from HeartKids CEO, Cecilia Donovan
New solutions for energy efficiency are also essential in the fight to limit global warming. One look at today’s media and you will observe a steady stream of news focused around the ever-changing landscape of how we produce and consume energy. At the end of April, Germany set a new record by generating 85% of its electricity from renewable sources of energy, whilst across the oceans, California have just set a new energy record, now generating 80% of its total energy through renewable energy.
Closer to home we’re also seeing innovative energy solutions such as the Northam Shopping Centre becoming Western Australia’s first solar car park (set to produce 40% of the centre’s energy), with Adelaide set to start building the world’s largest solar and battery storage plant later this year, and Nissan set to release solar roofed electric cars soon to the Aussie car market. It’s news articles like this which highlight the growing ways in which our technology, research and testing are propelling us all towards a more sustainable future for a brighter tomorrow.
Through key partnerships with leading cardiologists and researchers, HeartKids have built a solid foundation of helping reduce mortality rates, whilst working towards reducing the incidence of childhood heart disease. Through generous support from members, companies, sponsors and general supporters (such as the Gala Ball attendees), a cumulative approach can be taken to increase funding, awareness and research to build hope for a healthier, more sustainable future within the community.
Proud sponsors of the 2017 HeartKids Gala Ball
By joining together in the crusade against climate change, we too can make a difference together. Whilst our products and services are designed to help companies reduce their carbon footprints, we are increasingly beginning to see a cumulative effort in technology, innovation and personal attitudes, all helping to bring to light new solutions for a more preventative future. Whilst we can’t avoid using energy, we can become smarter and more efficient with our usage in a way that limits our impact on our one and only planet.
Managing Director of EGP Energy Solution, Darren Harry OAM, reflected on the night saying; “As proud sponsors of HeartKids, it was a great evening of emotion, reflection and inspiration, honoured by a room of professionals, sharing an important amicable goal of progress towards children’s heart disease.”

From starting as a volunteer organisation, HeartKids has grown to a national presence, proving the point that we can all create a brighter future with the right support and the right team. Mr Harry continued; “We’d like to thank HeartKids CEO, Cecilia Donovan, for the opportunity to be a part of the evening, and we’d also like to congratulate the worthy winner of our 5-kilowatt residential solar system.”
The EGP Energy Solutions team were joined on the night by valued clients Cloud 9 Drycleaners and 3MW, as well as our creative partner BEVIN Creative, who all contributed to a fantastic evening focused around tomorrow’s generation of inspiring children.
We urge you to join us in our support of the HeartKids Foundation by visiting their website or following them on either Facebook or Twitter.
